From Paoli to New Glarus for lunch. A few long hills. A
hilly ride to New Glarus with the RTR group. I was more tired
afterwards than I think I should have been after only 35 miles,
Barb (from last
year's log). |

To Lodi for lunch from Festge Park. The wind-assisted trip up
Lodi-Springfield road was a joy. The trip back required
more effort but it afforded some picture postcard
views. Besides the Great Blue Heron, Sand Hill Crane, and
Mallards we were treated to a flock of American Coots
floating on Crystal Lake. Just down the road I spotted a
small collection of Wood Ducks paddling in the calm waters
of a small pond, Joe (from last
year's log). |

Sauk City to North Freedom for lunch. Some
long hills and fantastic views. From Jack's log:
From the fertile river valley, up and over the very 'private'
Baraboo Range, then out to the west, north and east again where
the land is mostly high and open. A wonderful drop into the North
Freedom area. The town features a respectable 'Railroad
Restaurant.' The return route on Freedom Road was even better,
having that private feel from beginning to end. Some areas should
never be allowed to change. This would be one of them. |

Meet in Mt Horeb Grundahl Park for 40 miles of SW Dane hills
and ridges (lunch in New Glarus). From Barb's log: Had a
nice lunch at Deningers, sitting on the porch. It was a
good ride, alot of hills. I started to feel comfortable,
and actually enjoy, going down the steeper ones. Hope the
good feeling lasts. We climbed about 2700 feet. |

Blanchardville from my house. Hope there is food there. It
was about 65 miles. A beautiful, quiet route both to and from
Blanchardville from Dan's. The views from county F were
outstanding, Jack. |

Meet at Jack's house. Mineral Point and lunch. From Joe's
log: Lunch at the brew pub on Commerce Street was fabulous. I had
the soup, walnut burger, and fries. The jalapeno poppers were very
well done. The brews were good and the atomosphere of the old
stone building was charming. Before and after lunch we biked on
the dead quiet roads of Iowa County. The beauty of Mounds View
road was complemented by a great blue. It was a cool gray day with
a bit of a head wind heading back. |

If we want another long ride - Meet at Paoli for the triple
retro ride. This ride picks up portions of three Wed. night rides in
the opposite direction. Late lunch in New Glarus About 80. Or flat
ride to Evansville. About 40 miles. Alternatively, I'll suggest
a sixty to eighty miler to Cambridge. During an XC skiing outing this
past winter, Pat and I discovered an old mill that had been
transformed into a fine restaurant. They serve high quality food at
a high price. -- Joe |
